Revamping Endless Aisle Experience to Better Assist Designers

The challenge

The experience in a California Closets showroom is unlike any other – customers can browse a subset of design customizations in person, but it’s impossible to make every option available within the finite limits of the showroom square footage, because everything is custom. So the challenge was how can we deliver a more curated experience of “endless aisle” so it enhances and supports the showroom visit – and creates a more effective, seamless hand off to the showroom Design Team.

The solution

With this in mind, California Closets looked for a way to unify the aesthetic of franchised showroom locations across the U.S. so that the experience would be the same, no matter which part of the country a customer was in. We deployed a stunning interactive Showroom 2.0 concept across the U.S. Because of the physical space constraint, paired with the customer need for design inspiration, a touchscreen ‘Tech Table’ was developed and rolled out to qualifying showrooms.

This endless aisle/endless design app and kiosk form factor runs on an Elo 42” or 46” touchscreen, and gives customers a complete view of California Closets’ design potential. Whether customers arrive at a showroom with a very specific vision in mind of what they want in their home, or with only a general idea of the improvements they want to make, the tech table design is sure to wow and inspire.

Part DIY and Guided Sell, these hardware and software experiences help bring to life content at the right place, and right step in the process of closet design projects.  This interactive experience uses a windows based HTML application that acts as an endless aisle:  allowing showroom guests to browse options, narrow choice, understand before/after, and become immersed in solution for every room in home.  Special features including “like and love”, appointment setting, email-myself – allow for fluid and frictionless hand off to the Design Consultant.

The results

The experience was recognized for its ability to expand the sale by 20-30%, reducing the time to conversion of a sales [vs showrooms without the technology] and remains a heroic feature on showroom floors across strategic market locations today.  Overall, the new design has delivered higher satisfaction feedback earning a Silver Award for Best Customer Engagement from Retail Touchpoints, 2020.
